CMD Training Institute is currently delivering the E-Learning @ The Library initiative throughout the Midlands, North East and Mayo for FÁS and the local county libraries. This is a project where anyone can avail of online learning facilities through their local library and study online from the comfort of their own homes.
Lifelong learning was celebrated in Mullingar on Friday 17th December, when Cllr Dollard, Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, presented certificates to participants in the FÁS eLearning at the Library course.
The FÁS eLearning at the library programme is a partnership involving FÁS, the public library service, and An Chomhairle Leabharlanna. The programme offers people the chance to learn some basic computer skills and also offers participants the chance to use the skills they’ve learned to advance to further online courses using the FAS e-college facility.
192 people have participated in the programme in Athlone and Mullingar, with 4,400 participating nationwide.
Speaking at the event, Norma McDermott, Director of An Chomhairle Leabharlanna, expressed the delight of An Chomhairle at the success of the partnership, which is a superb example of how public libraries are supporting lifelong learning among all age groups.
She congratulated the staff of Westmeath public libraries on the excellent service they provide throughout the county.
The FÁS eLearning at the Library programme is being offered in 106 libraries around the country, and will be extended to 120 libraries by early 2011.
